
Taking silodosin (Rapaflo)
Dear Patient,
Your health care provider has prescribed silodosin to help manage symptoms associated with your enlarged prostate. This drug helps relax the muscles in your bladder and prostate, thus improving urine flow and relieving your symptoms. The brand name of the drug is Rapaflo.
How you'll take silodosin
Take this drug with the same meal each day. Swallow the capsule whole; don't crush, chew, or cut the capsule.
What to do if you miss a dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for the next dose, just skip the missed dose. Don't make up the missed dose. Don't take more than one dose per day.
What to do about side effects
Notify your health care provider if you experience side effects to this medication.
Common: abnormal ejaculation.
Less common: abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, low blood pressure, nasal congestion, sinus infection.
What you must know about other medications
There are many drugs that could cause problems if you combine them with this drug. You may experience dizziness and low blood pressure if silodosin is combined with these drugs:
- ketoconazole
- clarithromycin
- itraconazole
- ritonavir
- cyclosporine
- alpha blockers
- diltiazem
- verapamil
- erythromycin
- blood pressure medications.
Tell any health care provider who takes care of you that you're taking this drug.
Special directions
- Don't drive or operate hazardous machinery until you know how this drug affects you.
Keep in mind
- Inform your ophthalmologist that you're taking or have taken silodosin if you need cataract surgery.
