
Taking dexlansoprazole (Kapidex)
Dear Patient,
Your health care provider has prescribed dexlansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, to treat your gastroesophageal reflux disease or erosive esophagitis. This drug reduces the amount of acid in your stomach and helps heal your esophagus. The brand name of this drug is Kapidex.
How you'll take dexlansoprazole
Take this drug about the same time each day. You may take it with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole. If you're unable to swallow the whole capsule, open it, sprinkle the contents onto 1 tablespoon of applesauce and swallow it immediately.
What to do if you miss a dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for the next dose, just skip the missed dose. Don't try to make up doses. Don't take more than one dose per day.
What to do about side effects
Notify your health care provider if you experience side effects to this medication.
Common: diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, common cold, vomiting, gas.
What you must know about other medications
Tell any health care provider who takes care of you that you're taking this drug. Serious problems may occur if you combine this drug with other drugs. For example, this drug may interfere with the effects of: - warfarin
- atazanavir
- ampicillin
- iron
- digoxin
- ketoconazole.
Special directions
- Notify your health care provider if you're pregnant or considering becoming pregnant.
- You should take this drug exactly as prescribed, even if you're feeling better.
Keep in mind
- It isn't known whether this drug appears in breast milk. If you're breast-feeding, another method of feeding the baby may be necessary.
