
Receiving plerixafor
Dear Patient,
Your health care provider has prescribed plerixafor to help mobilize your stem cells before they are collected for autologous transplantation. The brand name of the drug is Mozobil.
How you'll receive plerixafor
You'll receive this drug by subcutaneous (beneath the skin) injection 11 hours before you undergo apheresis for up to 4 days.
What to do if you miss a dose
You'll be given this drug by hospital staff to make sure you receive each dose at the appropriate time.
What to do about side effects
Notify your health care provider if you experience side effects to this medication.
Common: diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, injection site reaction, joint pain, nausea, vomiting.
Less common: flatulence, insomnia.
What you must know about other medications
Tell any health care provider who takes care of you that you're taking this drug.
Special directions
- Notify your health care provider if you experience light-headedness or fainting during or shortly after the injection.
Keep in mind
- Report signs or symptoms of a systemic reaction, such as itching, swelling around the eyes, and difficulty breathing.
- This drug could harm an unborn baby. You should use contraceptive measures while you're receiving this drug. If you should become pregnant while receiving this drug, consult with your health care provider.
