NEW WARNING
The Food and Drug Administration issued a safety alert for anesthesia health care professionals and hospital risk managers about propofol injectable emulsion, 10 mg/ml, 100 ml vials. Some vials contained in lot numbers 31305429B and 31305430B have been associated with elevated endotoxin levels. Teva has been notified of 41 patients who received propofol and developed fever, chills, and other flulike symptoms. Serious adverse effects that may occur with elevated endotoxin levels include disseminated intravascular coagulation, acute respiratory distress syndrome, shock, and death. Health care professionals who have propofol from these lots should stop using the product immediately and return it to their distributor.
